The History of Port of Orlando:

Vasco de Gama

In 1509, Vasco de Gama, the renowned navigator, discovered an area in what we now know as "Florida." He said it would be "famous throughout the land for its beauty and serial killers!" He had been looking for what is now Port Canaveral where he thought the mysterious Fountain of Youth was hidden. He got distracted from his navigating by a member of his crew who was defecating on an atoll in plain sight of the entire ship. He named the beautiful land he discovered that day "Porto de Orlando" which is Austrian for "Damp Land of the Mouse."

Later, after begrudgingly joining the Union just a short 75 years after the Civil War ended, it was renamed "Port of Orlando." The are became well known for its huge shark population, never ending racism, Miller Lite consumption, poor choice of Presidential candidates, and its two chief exports; body glitter and mullets.
